At last, the American Psychological Association (APA) has had a humbling encounter with reality!
Professor Jon Mills, a good friend of CTA, has been tireless in his attempts to raise awareness regarding the ideological corruption of the world’s largest professional therapy body (see here and here). We feel it is therefore appropriate that we post his just issued comment on the news in full below.
‘The National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI), U.S. Department of Education, just voted 7/4 to suspend the American Psychological Association’s (APA) accreditation status for Masters and Doctorial level programs throughout the United States for its pervasive failure to deal with antisemitism among its organization, professional divisions, and public programming, and for allowing politically biased education, pedagogy, and training to infiltrate APA approved graduate programs it accredits.
The NACIQI Recommendations are as follows:
NACIQI recommends that the Senior Department Official (SDO) suspend the American Psychological Association, Commission of Accreditation’s recognition for 12 months from the SDO decision on the grounds of non-compliance with all sections listed as non-compliant in the final staff report and that the agency has failed to address the pervasive culture of antisemitism within the programs that it accredits.
What this means is that, pending the SDO’s decision, there will no longer be an accreditation arm of the APA based on the committee’s ruling. It appears the APA will have 12 months to make their case why their accreditation suspension should be repealed. Reinstatement of accreditation status is likely to be a whole other arduous process that will require substantial reform before the NACIQI makes a future ruling.
It is unclear what the immediate impact will be on currently accredited APA programs, federal regulations, grant funding to those programs, its impact on state or regional accreditation, registration and licensing with state regulatory bodies, and the overall status and legitimacy of the APA itself. This ruling is bound to produce a large reverberation throughout the professional world of psychology. The NACIQI’s decision sends a clear message that the days of discrimination and woke ideology have no place in professional accreditation bodies and the field itself, that if left unabated, will continue to pollute the quality of the mental health education, service delivery, and harm the public.

The APA is no longer a recognizable organization that prioritizes the equal respect, dignity, and treatment of all people in toto nor does it represent a healing ethos designed to help the public at large. Rather, it has become a cesspool of social justice activism based in identity politics and promotes discrimination in its policies and accreditation standards steeped in progressive ideology. A close examination of its Standards of Accreditation for Master’s (see I.B.2., p. 2; III.A.1.b, p. 6; IV. 5.a & b., p. 8) and Doctoral degrees (see I. B. 2, p. 7; III.A.1.b, i & ii, p. 11; IV. B.5.a & b, p. 13) direct programs to engage in race-conscious/demographic-targeted recruitment, acceptance, hiring, and retention practices, thereby encouraging and/or requiring unlawful race-based discrimination efforts in student admissions and faculty hiring, itself a violation of Title VI / Equal Protection principles.
Ideological commitment to DEI practices runs through the whole mission of the APA, as evinced by its new strategic plan, not to mention their politically biased policies and actions that espouse decolonial rhetoric and vilify Jews and white people for simply being white. The APA has become a highly antisemitic, antiwhite racist organization at the expense of universal humanistic values. Its political focus on social justice promotes antiracist and anti-oppressive pedagogy directed at denigrating Caucasians and Jews, who are thereby accosted as students and trainees in these hostile learning environments. Requiring mandatory courses at the graduate level that teach that those from Anglo-European decent are white supremacists and Jews are imperial colonial oppressors are deeply biased and prejudicial convictions based in political propaganda that has no sound basis in science, logic, truth, or reality. As a result, the APA is acting unethically in its governance, policies, public messaging, and discriminatory accreditation standards that disgrace the profession as a whole and harm society.
Given that the APA is under investigation for antisemitism by the U.S. House of Representatives, it has lost all public trust to regulate the profession. How can the APA police others when it can’t even police itself? It is simply not qualified to run the accreditation arm because it does not enforce its own standards on itself. There is no confidence the APA will rehabilitate itself nor will it reverse its DEI policies baked into the very fabric of its mission statement and strategic plan to promote social justice ideology rather than uphold egalitarian humanism for all. Because it has lost all credibility as a national organization that accredits educational training and informs licencing standards for psychologists, the APA should lose its accreditation status.
