Andrew Doyle interviews Dr. Carole Sherwood from Save Mental Health about the confused responses from the professional therapy bodies in the UK to the recent published Cass report. She explains that this confusion is down to the power wielded by trans-activists. Until very recently, all of the professional bodies were signed up to a trans-activist led project – the Memorandum of Understanding on Conversion Therapy. This agreement binds signatories to oppose, not just conversion attempts on same-sex attracted individuals, but also conversion attempts on professed gender identity. As this agreement makes no real distinction between children and adults, safe guarding concerns have come to the fore. Consequently, therapy professional bodies now find themselves in conflict with the findings of the Cass Review which conclude that children and young people experiencing gender distress need psycho-social interventions and exploratory therapy rather than an automatic affirmation leading to a medical pathway.
